The annual dive in the water on New Year’s Day has been a tradition in Trondheim since 2015. In 2015, the dive started with only 8 participants, but has since grown to an event with more than 50 participants (and continues to grow each year).

The event is organized by a group of “Dutch Trønders”. The Netherlands has a history with a lot of new year’s dive sites across the country with a huge number of participants. The dive in Scheveningen (close to The Hague), where people take a dip in the North Sea during the cold winter, began in 1965 and has grown to a massive event with 40,000 participants in the whole of the Netherlands, of which 10,000 in Scheveningen.
